Miguel Thames is a successful executive with over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. He has held senior management positions in global business development, with responsibility for sales, consultant relations, and client service for an $800bln asset management company. These positions covered personnel and relationships in the US, Japan, Europe and the UK. He also has an extensive background in portfolio management and transactions, including public fixed income portfolios, private placements, and financial restructurings. Miguel has established strong direct relationships with large institutional investors and asset allocators in countries in Latin America, Africa and the US. Each region and country operates within a distinct cultural and regulatory framework. Miguel has effectively built a global network of relationships that now provides a platform for value added collaboration with asset owners and managers in these regions.
In 2018 Miguel launched T.I.G. Advisory, providing experienced resources and insights for companies to help develop business strategy, direct and facilitate business expansion and drive business growth. T.I.G. specializes in advisory service in the institutional investment market in two primary areas. First, the firm advises US focused asset managers and fund sponsors on investment marketing, business expansion strategy and relationship management, leveraging Miguel’s extensive experience and relationships in the US institutional market. Second, the firm facilitates institutional engagement and investment in Africa, working through Miguel’s broad network of local corporate and government influencers in sub-Sahara Africa, institutional asset owners, fund sponsors and investment advisors.
From 2015-2018, Miguel led the business development activity of PGIM (the global asset management business of Prudential Financial) in Latin America and Africa, initiating PGIM’s expansion to these developing markets. Prior to this he was responsible for global business development and expansion and extensively engaged and collaborated with investment marketing, compliance, investment management and client service. He built the consultant relations function, and led a team of sales professionals, operating regionally and targeting the largest institutional plans and asset allocators the US, Europe and Japan.
Miguel has experience as a portfolio manager of publicly traded fixed income for institutional clients, and a manager of loan portfolios of financially troubled/restructured companies. He worked for five years in underwriting of private debt and equity transactions, five years in private loan workouts, and six years as a fixed income portfolio manager. He earned his MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago and his BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a CFA charter holder.
